About Kendama
Kendama is a traditional Japanese game of skill, derived from the old European 'Cup and Ball' game. The ball is attached to the Kendama by a cord. The object of the game is to catch the ball in one of the 3 different sized cups, or on the spike. The game gets more difficult as you progress to more challenging tricks, like catching the spike ON the ball! There are loads of tricks to learn, and film of Kendama players is increasingly available on YouTube and similar sites.

Be warned that this is a surprisingly addictive game, and definitely has that 'just one more go' appeal for players of all ages. It is quite a buzz when you nail a new trick!

Note that the Japanese wooden Kendama are imported from Japan and all packaging and instructions are in Japanese. The Yomega Star Catch and the Tom Kuhn Kendama have instructions in English.

JKA Approved Kendama
The Japanese Kendama Association (JKA) approves some wooden kendama for competition. The JKA approved competition kendama have a JKA sticker on the stem as can be seen in the photograph. Presently the TK16, Sakura and Oozora are JKA approved and bear the JKA seal.
