The Star Catch by Yomega. A great entry level Kendama. Dense plastic throughout that is surprisingly well built and very solid. Satisfying and strangely addictive to play.

These have slightly different proportions to the Japanese woden Kendama and are great for beginners.

YUMU Kendama are a new Kendama manufacturer from Taiwan. Yumu Kendama feature a Patented design based on removable pegs. Each cup has a hole in the centre into which an optional Yumu Peg can be fitted. Note to get a good fit it may be necessary to use a bit of tape around the peg to create a snug fit in the Yumu hole.

You can set up this kendama to play in many ways! You can use it as a standard single-spiked kendama, or add pegs to as many of the cups as you wish. Add one additional peg to have a two-spiked kendama, add two additional pegs to create a 3 spiked kendama, or add 3 additional pegs to have a 4-spiked kendama with no cups. You can even join up several Yumu Kendama. This versatility adds a new dimension to play and opens up a whole new load of crazy trick possibilities.

Each Yumu Kendama is supplied with one peg, one bead and one replacement string.
The peg can be used in any of the cups. Additional Yumu Pegs are sold separately.

Spare string for your Kendama.

The strings are white, and each is approximately 50cm long. Each string is knotted at one end with a small red bead threaded on it. The end of the string with the bead on it goes in the wooden Kendama ball. The knot and bead stop the string from coming out of the Kendama ball. Tip: before replacing a string, have a look at how the existing string is fitted!

There are very few kendama DVDs or books available. Some of the best resources are free and on the web. For example, You Tube is a great resource for kendama tricks. There are some exceptions and wherever possible we will offer any published resources for sale here, starting with the excellent new British Kendama DVD called "First Clicks to Pro Tricks".

There are very few books written about kendama, and next to none in English. Luckily for English-speaking kendama players, in 2010 The Void wrote and published "Spike: Mastering the kendama" which is a very nicely written and illustrated guide to kendama. Recommended for anyone wanting to know more about the kendama and kendama tricks.
